Former NYC Community Director Jason Seto discusses his future plans to transition from Community Director to Social Justice and Human Rights Activist.

New York, NY, 8th April 2023, ZEXPRWIRE, As a former Community Director working with the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) in New York City, Jason has built tremendous experience and knowledge in serving disenfranchised communities. He passionately advocates for empowerment by hosting and creating “Know Your Rights” workshops – to bring invaluable information, education and tools to people. Jason states, “Our team has created workshops on trauma, criminal justice reform, immigration, social service programs, health and wellness, to LGBTQ+ discussions.”

Jason states, “A transformative movement can’t happen until we reach a transformative mindset which can adapt to change.” Through this lens he has started to build upon a think tank team to develop an online community engagement and social justice platform – aligning the art of visual film making, live theatrical stage performances and music production to share powerful and compelling real life social justice and human rights stories. Jason states, “we will focus our storytelling around four different types of justice: distributive (determining who gets what), procedural (determining how fairly people are treated), retributive (based on punishment for wrong-doing) and restorative (which tries to restore relationships to “rightness”). Stories of drug, alcohol and sex addictions, criminal charges to gang life.” Jason Seto is excited to highlight the stories of the people of New York and is also eager and hopeful to expand his platform to others outside of New York City.

Jason states, “My vision is to have each shared experience one is going through as a mini docu-series.” “It should amplify a person’s life changing event and addiction by sharing their unique childhood experiences as the backdrop.” “My desire is to share these visual back stories by allowing the audience to capture these textures and colors which ordinarily would not be present in one’s story, especially in the media. “The goal is to ultimately build upon empathy  – allowing these profound experiences to evolve into becoming transformative – from – judgment – to understanding – to rehabilitative to restorative – to forgiveness.”

Jason knows first hand the profound effects of one’s childhood experiences which he intimately shares with being severely emotionally abused and neglected, to moving out of his home at 12 years old. He states, “I plan to also share my own journey through this platform we are creating during this next chapter for myself. My hopes are that I can help inform and educate people on the severe impact these childhood experiences have in one’s life.” By building a community for people to share their experiences, Jason Seto believes that he will be able to diffuse many misconceptions by offering people a choice in how they perceive a criminal charge, person struggling with addiction, to understanding why people turn to gang life by creating a visual story – as Jason states – to share – “The Story of You.”

Through Jason Seto’s years of community activism and personal experiences, he has been able to understand the critical importance of mental health, trauma and advocacy for those who lack the necessary resources and support. With his new project featured on jasonsetoproductions.com participants in the community will be able to learn from others stories, while also connecting and ultimately creating a greater community of support.

Although Jason has spent a large majority of his career in his role as Community Director, he is excited and eager to make the transition to a full time Social Justice and Human Rights Activist. Many of his previous roles have naturally leaned to serving the community, but Jason is now eager to focus his day to day on amplifying the voices behind the stories.
