Retd Himachal cadre IAS officer Upma Chawdhry 1st woman to head Metropolitan Stock Exchange

Upma Chawdhry, a retired 1983 batch IAS officer from Himachal cadre has been appointed Chairman of the Metropolitan Stock Exchange ( MSE).
She is the first woman to be appointed Chairperson of any Market Infrastructure Institution. Her appointment has been approved by SEBI as Chairperson of the Governing Board of MSE.
Chawdhry, born in 1959, has had a distinguished administrative career spanning over 35 years. She was also the first woman Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie in 2016. She retired from service in December 2020.
Both Upma and her husband Vineet Chawdhry, who remained Chief Secretary in Himachal, hail from Jalandhar. She has over three decades of rich administrative and governance experience across key areas like finance, rural development, education, industry, tourism, women empowerment and public sector reforms.
She has also represented India at international forums including the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and has closely worked with several United Nations agencies. Between 2018 and 2021, she served as a Member of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration and chaired the working group for the United Nations Public Service Award.
She has also served on the boards of several reputed institutions and companies, contributing significantly towards governance enhancement and organisational development.
