Amazon India to invest Rs 2,800 crore to boost operations, associate well-being

Amazon India on Thursday said it was planning to invest over Rs 2,800 crore to further strengthen associate safety, health and financial well-being as the company continues to scale its operations infrastructure across India.
This investment builds on Amazon India’s Rs 2,000 crore commitment in 2025, which added 17 new fulfillment centres, six sortation centres, and 75 last-mile delivery stations.
Abhinav Singh, vice-president, operations, Amazon India and Australia, said Amazon India would continue to invest in expanding and upgrading its operations network — including fulfillment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations — to increase capacity and improve delivery speeds for customers in tier 2 and 3 cities across India.
“Our investments will also support sellers and small businesses and contribute to local economic growth,” he said.
The company is also scaling Amazon Now, a quick commerce offering, at a pace of nearly two sites per day, reaching over 300 micro-fulfilment centres designed for ultra-fast deliveries across Delhi NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
On Amazon Now, we plan to have more than double our footprint in cities we currently operate in and expand to more cities across India this year, said Singh.
Singh pointed out that the company was expanding Project Ashray, a network of air-conditioned rest stops where delivery associates could take a quick break and refresh during their workday. These facilities currently serve over 1,50,000 delivery associates, including those outside Amazon’s network, every month across 100 locations.
“We are also strengthening medical and accident insurance coverage for delivery associates working with Delivery Service Partners through upgraded Group Mediclaim and Group Personal Accident policies,” he said.
Singh further added that the company was deploying AI and machine learning tools to improve on-road safety, including alerts for unsafe speeds and prompts for rest breaks. AI models assess route complexity to enable more equitable workload distribution and improve route planning.
